Kummerspeck: the weight you gain from overeating due to emotional stress or trauma. A German word that translates literally as "grief bacon".

Ah, those Germans! And can you think of a country that would be more appropriate place, culinarily speaking, to put on said kummerspeck?

When you're depressed and want to console yourself with food, let's face it, tapas, ratatouille or haggis just don't fit the bill.

Noodles, potatoes, butter, bacon and sausage....oooooh, I feel better already.

Oh, whoops. I didn't mean the polar opposite. I meant losing weight because of trauma, not because of good things. I call it The Divorce Diet or The Drama Diet. (Of course, the weight comes back when life evens out again.)

You could go with Kummerverhungern (grief starvation) or the slightly more poignant Kummerabfuhrmittel (grief laxative).....
