The To-Do List
Jun. 16th, 2011 08:30 am#1. Be more charming. The world needs more charming. Assholery abounds and I'm pretty sure that Charming is like saltpetre to Assholery.
#2. Chew my own arm off in despair and frustration at the amount of work that I am buried in. I feel like I'm walking around with my own personal Greek Chorus of "You're a screw-up who can't get anything done." I alternate between shrugging my shoulders and saying "Hey, I'm trying as hard as I can" and having full-blown panic attacks in the ladies room.
#3. Go ahead and have that full-blown panic attack at home. My mother is stopping by next week for a sleepover on her way back home from visiting a friend who lives farther south. There is VARF all over the house and the house itself hasn't been cleaned to any degree since Easter. Can I convince her that the dust buffalo are actually a new line of furniture from Ikea?
#4. Figure out why so many of my plants are dying. My boxwood basil has just gone into superwilt, one section at a time and is nearly gone. One of my scented geraniums has done the same, as has the bog rosemary that I planted several months ago. They have nothing in common, being planted in three different areas, in three different substratees, except that, well, I'm in charge of them. And I'm taking it personally.
#5. Wash the car, get the oil changed, get the air conditioner in it fixed, get new tires, new shocks, new brake pads...oh, hell, just get a new car, right?
#6. Speaking of expensive - deal with the house renovation that has to happen before the side of said house falls off. And new windows before they also just fall out of the frames.
#7. Have a social life that doesn't involve a renaissance faire. Seriously, earlier this week we had a Happy Hour to celebrate a colleague's retirement and several of us wound up just sitting around and talking about STUFF. Not bitching about work, not talking about a renaissance faire or any kind of reenactment or performance. It's time to meet friends in restaurants again, have cook-outs and dinner party and cocktail parties. Which is a nice fantasy that comes to a hard stop against the limitations of time and money found in items 2, 3, 5 and 6.
#8. Stop freaking out about all of this stuff and just breathe.
So, which one do you think I'm going to blow off?

Regarding #2 - s'ok.... really. it'll be ok. No wait, for #'s 2 - 6, s'ok.... really. petit a petit... or as they said in the anglophone part of Cameroon (and my favorite phrase by far...) "Small, small... catch monkey."
Let us know how we can help... esp. with #6. I can't exactly volunteer L's services, but he's a really GOOD GC... and can probably give you advice on what needs the most attention - and may even be able to get GC prices on stuff for you. Plus - it's a good excuse for us to come visit and work on #7.
LOVE YOU!

Date: 2011-06-16 01:10 pm (UTC)If you're anything like me, probably #8. ;) Though lists are typically the way I keep #8 from giving me an aneurysm.
I LOVE #7. I've been really enjoying that lately myself (though I obviously don't have the stark contrast you're currently dealing with from finishing up VaRF). And yeah, time and money usually complicate that. :( Lately I've been MAKING time for it, and doing a one-evening "thing" per week. I should eventually get through my looooong list of people I've wanted to have over and enjoy in a non-faire context. Yes, it's going to take a while. ;)

Date: 2011-06-16 01:58 pm (UTC)though I understand the spirit of the rant, your arms are a lovely part of a lovely you, so the only chew marks should be from a friend/acquaintance/rogue who comes upon them and simply can't resist the urge to nibble his/her way along them to nuzzle on your neck and growl into your ear
