Still not thawed out
Jan. 31st, 2011 02:52 pmSo my big adventure last week was touring the R&D facility and paper mill of a major bath and facial tissue company. Here I was, worried that January was a dumb time to be traveling to these parts of the country -- much colder and snowier and winterier than the Mid-Atlantic. Except of course, I got stuck where I was because the Washington, DC airport was snowed in. Yay, me. And did I get stuck on the bustling urban end of the trip at the R&D facility? No, of course not. I got stuck out in the country, where the papermills live. But at least they had good BBQ, which makes up for a LOT of other lacks.
Like Diet Mountain Dew. Seriously, three days without DMD. And stuck in one airport, which was clearly a Coke property. And then had to run from one end of the Atlanta airport to the other (because when the flight attendant said we were arriving at Gate C and my connecting flight was at Gate D, I thought o, frabjous joy! which of course meant that last minute we got re-routed to Gate A, meaning I had to traverse pretty much the whole terminal...and you know that my gate was #2...which IS at the very end of that section, ahem.) -- and in Alanta, Coke is KING -- and catching a quick glimpse of what was possibly the only cooler of Pepsi products in the whole damn airport and seeing the flourescent, angelic glint of my Addition and knowing that if I stopped for it, I would surely miss my plane...painful.
But I made my flight and made it home. To no power. For two days. Which is actually pretty endurable, since I can shower at work and putting all of the mammals in one room and battening it down with blankets over windows and doors and heating large cast iron pots full of water to help take the chill off, can bring our bedroom up to a cozy 58 degrees.
But it gets old. As does this oppressive greyness. Yesterday I dragged the Captain to the zoo so that we could get an entire day of sun and fresh air. Honestly, I was craving that more than DMD.
And now it's cold and gray and more crap is supposed to rain down on us. Look, I could take last winter because it was a fluke, right? And this winter...well, everyone knows that flukes are an attached pair. But Winter, seriously? You are on double secret probation.

Date: 2011-01-31 10:39 pm (UTC)something was said about the best restaurants in town doubling as bordellos but you know what? NO SNOW
I could adapt. They could keep me in reserve for the extra special guests. I'd even wear feathers and leather.
