Now that I've had some "hermit-time"...I miss having clean sheets every day and someone coming in to remake the bed every time it gets rumpled. (Hey, the weather wasn't so great the first couple of days...and treadmills are a boring way to burn calories....)

I miss our cheerful steward, bringing me bottled water, sodas, and origami towel animals to amuse us.

Opening the fridge and confronting a bunch of unlabeled, overaged tupperware containers that DARE me to open them...I miss cruising the buffet line to see what interests my palate today. Don't even get me started on washing dishes.

Is it too late to trade the exhaust-filled Washington Metro area air for some bracing sea breezes?

A couple of days ago, I was photographing howler monkeys, bats, and manatees. Today I was cursing garden slugs, boxelder bugs and house sparrows.

Thank goodness there's a sea shanty tonight -- I miss hanging out with good friends and having a few too many drinks. And I'm off to the north this weekend for some hot-tubbing and rum. (Tempered by one young niece's birthday party and the other's cello concert...it's never all fun and games, is it?)

When I left, at 9:30 in the morning...only 4-6, which this New Englander can handle. Of course, they left out the part about ice, sleet, hail and freezing rain throughout the entire state of New Jersey, New York and Southern Connecticut -- conveniently only mentioning THAT part when I was already halfway through the fine state of NJ. Bastards. 11 hours for what is normally a 6 hour drive...
