I am all about artists' rights, (not that I'm saying that this organization is really out there to protect the artist...) but this is just a step too far....

So, by this reasoning, if you want to have music playing in the delivery room when you have a kid...better start saving nickles for your license fees...

The problem is, most of these "protection" organizations aren't really working for the artists' rights, they're working for the bottom line. For example, the RIAA used to allow making backup copies of CDs to help protect your investment. Now, their response is that that is not allowed, and if you want a backup copy, go buy a second one.

I'd suggest she could sing or hum to her horses instead, but I suppose that would constitute a commercial live performance and she'd have ASCAP crawling up her ass.

Catch me sometime after I've spent the afternnon dealing with Harry Fox Agency over mechanical reproduction rights. I can be a lot more colorful than that.

So, by this logic, if I have more than 2 people riding in the car with me it's a performance and I need to pay a fee. ::shakes head:: humans can be so ridiculous sometimes....

Only if they were your employees and your car was their place of work. (Just for the record...)

Ridiculous

Yes, crazy, isn't it? It turns out that even singing Christmas carols in the village square is subject to licensing. We were there one winter, sang carols with everyone, including the local policeman. Sadly, we weren't arrested. It would have been fun considering there were about forty of us...
