But I will share this -- no matter what happens today, the U.S. does not have a corner on the market for stupid people.

"In late August, a popular Swedish food magazine recalled 10,000 store copies after a mistake in one of its cake recipes left four people sick, dizzy and in pain.
There was a mistake in a recipe for apple cake. Instead of calling for two pinches of nutmeg it said 20 nutmeg nuts were needed," Matmagasinet's chief editor Ulla Cocke told Agence France-Presse.
Agence France-Presse reported that the magazine had issued leaflet warnings about the dangers of nutmeg poisoning, but recalled the magazines after four adults overdosed. "

Please tell me that those four people all ate the same cake. Twenty whole nutmegs. Do you know how long it takes to grate an entire nutmeg? At one point, during the hours long process of grinding them, didn't the person think to him or herself...I dunno, this is an awful lot of nutmeg, this won't taste very good.

But then I remember the cooking class student who misread the recipe and used a 1/4 cup of cayenne pepper instead of 1/4 teaspoon, and I think...

LOL! We used to grate up that many nutmegs in Peace Corps so we could get HIGH. Supposedly, it has a slight hallucinogenic property in medium - high doses. I never felt anything, frankly. Not even dizzy. But the "pumpkin pie" smoothies we made (with papaya instead of pumpkin) were pretty damn tasty.

That's one hell of a cookie! Who the heck needs flushing niacin?

TWD's nephew once made chocolate chip cookies and instead of TSPing things, he TBLed them, including the salt. surprisingly enough the cookies looked good, and were even the proper texture, but they didn't taste so good.

still, that's not like 20 cups of salt or something. i'd like to think even i would have realized that. :)

They're Swedes -- they're going to celebrate Christmas in a few weeks by boiling a decomposing fish in lye overnight. I'm guessing "tasty" is a difficult concept for some of them.
