2300 pieces of candy. 4-5,000 visitors. 3 1/2 hours. One news crew. No traumas, other than a broken toilet, but since that was late in the evening and by then I'd fully gotten over the squeamies at the thought of people seeing what kind of squalor was inhabiting our upstairs...
(note to self: next year, set up "changing tent" in driveway because there's never enough space for people to change into costume.)
I can live with that. I've always been appreciative of the help we've gotten in the past from friends who like to come and hang out during this event. This year I got LOADS of help. Which was great, because otherwise, I would have been...well, occupying one of those grave spaces in the side yard.
(Note to self: next year, dig down, plant a cot in one of the spaces, camo the cot with a "dirt" blanket and be a zombie so you can nap.)
Planting our friends in the graveyard worked better than expected. I didn't expect them to put on such a show...but o, my garbwhore friends, you just can't resist an audience, can ya?
Plus the front walk assemblage who withstood the onslaught of kidlets and notsokidlets grabbing for candy.
(Note to self: remind your candy hander-outers that if they're going to drop candy that won't be found until the next morning, please do so with the Almond Joys and Reeses. I HATES the Willy Wonka crap. And morning after, on the ground candy is usually the only candy I get. Thank goodness I snatched a box of Charleston Chews early in the evening.)

They start out in the graveyard and pan the house, then move on to the street.
And if you're wondering where the Captain and I will be over the next several weeks...we'll be putting it all away...
