Cleaning out the Files for the New Year
Jan. 2nd, 2008 01:39 pmOne of the more stupid promotional items I’ve received: A neoprene sleeve that’s got a little clip on it so you can attach it to your belt, purse strap, whatever. It’s designed to hold...lipbalm/chapstick. I’m not saying it’s completely useless – back when I used to spend all day in the saddle, out in the wind, as a lifeguard...but really, when you’re talking about a bunch of desk jockeys, is this the first premium you think will excite them?
Unhelpful signs: looking up at the side of the tractor trailer driving alongside of me and there's a sign with a graphic of a truck folding in half. And the sign says "Caution. Truck may jacknife." Well, THAT'S helpful.
I am perilously close to having something booked every weekend between the second weekend of February and the first weekend of July. This makes me less than happy. I am doing my best to turn down everything this month and try and explore "boredom" as a state of being.
Restless leg syndrome sucks. Especially when it's atypical, affects you during the day and therefore makes any of the treatments completely useless to you in your daily life.
A memo from a vendor that I've saved because reading it makes me giggle. It ends: Beast regards, Jeff
Another year in which I failed to get out Christmas cards. Yay, me.
I did keep up with my annual challenge to contact a friend from my past that I've let slip. It's so easy for it to happen and yeah, I could play the "well, HE/SHE could contact me if they...." Yeah, well, whatever. Either many of my friends really didn't actually like me and have purposefully let our relationship wither...or they're lazy bastards who couldn't initiate their way out of a paper bag if it was on fire. Evidence so far, is for the latter. I'm not above stalking someone whose company I once enjoyed.
RLS
Date: 2008-01-02 07:14 pm (UTC)It's pretty good stuff and doesn't seem to affect work except the possible urge to gamble online or cruise porn sites.

Date: 2008-01-02 08:41 pm (UTC)Then there are the hallucinations and increased sex drive. Perhaps this wouldn't interfere with YOUR work day...but it would really, really mess up mine, snort!

Re: RLS
Date: 2008-01-02 08:59 pm (UTC)in any case, i never quite understood how a pill can cause an increase in your gambling urges. "i've got to go to the slot machines and bet money RIGHT NOW!!!" i mean.. huh?
Re: RLS
Date: 2008-01-02 09:13 pm (UTC)The cue word on that is *urges* I could be wrong but that is how I read it.
Re: RLS
Date: 2008-01-02 09:22 pm (UTC)Since my RLS isn't crippling -- almost NEVER effects me at night, so no fatigue issues. And it's mostly just annoying as hell, except on airplanes where it can be treated with 2 Benadryls, a Beer, a package of Sprees, and an aisle seat. So the benefits don't outweigh the risks for someone who has a family history of impulse-control issues, the ability to fall asleep at the drop of a hat (or a boring discourse), already suffers from olfactory hallucinations, and tends to get the side effects that only old people usually get. Prednisone+me=psychotic breaks. Me and mirapex would probably be me, high on crack, having sex with a dollar slot machine.
(Blecch. I am SO sorry for THAT image. Although not sorry enough to edit it. Which goes right back to impulse control, doesn't it....)
For now, I'll just stick with people thinking I'm hyper and unable to sit still for very long.

Date: 2008-01-02 09:33 pm (UTC)That sounds like a fine weekend in Vegas to me!
Re: RLS
Date: 2008-01-02 09:50 pm (UTC)that makes sense to me i suppose, though it seems completely counterintuitive for a side effect. it's supposed to help you curb the impulse of involuntary restless leg. not make you involuntarily unable (is that a double negative?) to control other aspects of your life.
anyway, when they're just reading off the side effects in the commercials in that Ben Steiny voice, it sounds absolutely strange. "may cause nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, and uncontrollable gambling urges." three of these things belong together...
but your explanation makes sense. thanks for taking the time to e'splain it so colorfully. :)
