But, but, but, but...
Feb. 19th, 2014 05:15 pmI'm hiding here on LJ. I can't go back to Facebook until I know it's buried so far in my feed, I'd have to use a shovel to find it.
Someone on Facebook posted a picture of a "snowy owl" hanging out in their yard. It's not even a friend of mine, but a friend of mine was tagged on the post and she commented, more than once, so it keeps rocketing to the top.
And all day long, I've been waiting, waiting, hoping, hoping, oh, please, oh, please, for the love of fried mice on multigrain Triscuits, someone tell these people that it's not a snowy owl, it's a Barred Owl. And the only thing they have in common, besides being owls, and carnivores, is that they are frequently seen in daylight. A BARRED Owl. Because it's pale beige with brown...BARS.
As opposed to a Snowy Owl which is SNOW colored, or White, with dark scalloping and FLUFFY feet. I know, I know. None of you care. That's okay. I just had to get it out there into the ether before either my head exploded, or I responded to a complete stranger's post, sounding like a know-it-all.
I like reserve the latter for my actual friends. Aren't YOU lucky?
