Hey, so it’s over right?
I mean, if you don’t count one more Saturday of having to be down there at the crack of dawn, striking tents and packing it all away. Plus, arranging for water, ice, sunscreen, bug spray and lunch. Cleaning up after everyone. And then the mountains and mountains of paperwork, budgeting, planning, and development for next season. Although most of that be done at home and here and there.
Here’s what I WON’T have to do, after having done it for the past ELEVEN weekends in a row (I’m going to cheat and not count that I got Easter weekend off, because I’m also not counting auditions, orientation and staff/board meetings):
I won’t have to weigh the costs, benefits, and potential risk mitigation of driving south on 95 through Virginia – early afternoon, mid-afternoon, early evening, late evening on a Friday or crack of dawn on Saturday. And of taking a day off work, a half day, trying to go in early and leave early. And of finding alternate routes to Spotsylvania.
Because you know what? Doesn’t matter what the plan is, you will be expletive’d. So, not being expletive’d, and not contemplating said expletivation every Friday is going to be a nice change.
Won’t have to eat something unhealthy for breakfast. Because one more chicken or sausage biscuit and I swear to all that’s held holy by other people, my body was going to stage an all out revolt. Because I can THINK about preparing healthier, tastier options all I want, but it’s just not going to happen. See “attempt at planning a short drive on a Friday afternoon” above.
Or, think of my week in set tasks– Sunday night being clean up godawful mess left by ZombieGeezerCat, put away perishables, upload credit charges. Tuesday is social event or vacuum/mow lawn/do dishes/clean bathrooms, Wednesday would be the alternate of whatever happened the previous night. Thursday would be wash EVERYTHING and repack. Friday would be bend over and head south on 95.
Won’t have to exquisitely balance liquid, fat, salt, carbs and protein so that I don’t fall out. I’m very good at it. I usually only get a little quivery once a season, and I’m head right into fixing it as soon as I get the slightest wave of weakness. But seriously, I would like a break from Cheez-It’s, blueberries, pickles and chunks of meat….and would like to eat food because I WANT it, not because I have to.
Won’t have to stay at the craptastic Days Inn, which makes my skin crawl a bit, although not as much as all of the other hotels in the Fburg area that allow dogs and have a room rate that isn’t crushing to contemplate when booking 24 nights on your own nickel, as opposed to your company’s.
But the BEST thing?
I won’t have to start or end a day at Wal-Mart!
