I want to line up the character witnesses right now.
Look, they're really nice people. And always willing to help out someone in the neighborhood with tools, expertise, whatever. But they have this giant bus/rv thing. And in it is a rather large television. Which you can see from the street. And for the past four weeks, the television has been on.
24 hours a day, seven days a week.
I know this because, thanks to my own illness and a digestive issue with one of the dogs, I've been out there in the wee hours. And while I can see every now and again that someone might sneak out of the house to watch television in the bus...this was too often, at all hours and the same damn channel.
So, after two weeks, I finally had to ask -- umm, so what's with the TV being on in the bus?
"Oh, I don't know, we keep forgetting to turn it off."
Yeah, I know, even I was sort of speechless -- admittedly, my house and yard are filled with "things" that I've been meaning to pick up, put away, mow down, take to the dump, etc. And as someone whose pumpkins literally composted themselves on the front steps...I barely have room to cast stones here.
But my "things" don't show up on my electricity bill. And really, having to buy new luminary bags for Halloween because I was too damn lazy to bring the stack all the way inside and instead let them molder on the gardening bench...well, that's sort of minor compared to oh, I dunno, the wear and tear on a television set that's on 24 hours a day for over a month.
But I thought, well, now that I've brought it to their attention, that'll be it.
Okay, it's been two more weeks. I'm having fantasies of running over and pulling the RV plug from where it's plugged into the house. Dribbling bleach on their lawn to spell out "Turn it off, please". Knocking on the door and asking for the keys so I can unlock the bus and turn the damn tv off. Trying to figure out if I have enough ammunition to go through the windshield and through to the television. And if that would start a fire...
The more I tell myself not to worry about it, it's not my problem, the more I obsess over it.
I just have to keep remembering that it would be painfully obvious that I was the culprit, since I'm the person in our 'hood who worries about stuff. And would actually be fiendish enough to think about using bleach to leave a message on the lawn....
