Roadkill

I admit it, I have a penchant for the gross, the creepy. Not in a Faces of Death kind of way...but will admit a certain fascination with the process of decay. Plus, as a child, my Dad would challenge me to identify animals -- at the Museum of Natural History or Peabody, they'd have those diaromas and at the base they'd list all of the animals inside -- back before they made it easy...he'd bet me that I couldn't find them all and identify them correctly.

Both meld when I'm in a car, bored in traffic, spotting some fur, bones, bits of critter on the side of the road -- name that roadkill! When it's fresh, not so hard, and always makes me sad but after a week or so of snow, rain, salt...or the high heat of August, it's not a slam-dunk and my inner geek pushes aside my inner empath.

Today, as I was driving back to work from walking the Percy-Geezer, I passed by a beautiful red fox. Sad. But easy to ID. The next one was easy, too, bits of colored paper in bright primary and neon colors, all in a pile beside the Jersey barrier. Hah! Piece of cake!

Clown.
